Alter Egos. Intercultural education through language learning

Aim: The aim of the project is to learn about other cultures, civilisations and languages, using drama, art, music and video. Also, the project tries to bring young people into contact with different ways of live and day-to-day realities of others.
Objectives:
1. to promote language learning and linguistic diversity, to increase confidence in the use of English as a tool to communicate and work together with people in other European countries.
2. to increase student motivation, make learning more attractive (particularly for those at a socio-economic disadvantage) and to reduce early school leaving;
3. to promote intercultural education, encouraging tolerance and respect for other peoples and cultures, to strengthen students’ social integration, active citizenship, gender equality and personal fulfilment;
4. to increase people awareness of belonging to the European space of citizenship based on understanding and respect for human rights and democracy;
5. to improve the use of new information and communication technologies;
Activities:
1. Realizing a common Web site including:
×  presentation of the whole project;
×  presentations of each partner;
×  photos and presentations about local customs/tradition;
×  2 theatre plays: recordings of  the preparation process and the performance;
×  Album: Art in Mirror;
×  the results of the photo contest Stop discrimination - a European attitude;
×  information about other activities done during the project.
2. Two meetings where students from both countries can meet and explore similarities and differences between them. Each one will have a main topic which leads the work before and during the meeting. The topics proposed to deal with are:
×  Prejudice, Stereotypes and Discrimination;
×  Differences and similarities unite Europe.
3. Two theatre plays chosen from each other’s folklore; the students will prepare the plays in their partner’s language and will present it during the project meetings. The preparation process and the performance will be photographed, recorded and posted on the web site.
4. Designing and filling in an inquiry about students’ characteristics, beliefs, social life;
5. Editing a magazine comprising the final products and information about the partnership activities.

Final products:
- a web site;
- a communication weblog;
- an online Conversation guide (trilingual);
- a Tourism Guide (printed & online);
- videos, presentations about regional traditions;
- graphic results of the survey;
- a magazine comprising the final products, acitivities.
Dissemination:
Dissemination of the results, experience and final products of the project will be run through Internet, traditional postal system and local/regional press.
Presentations of the final products of the projects at meetings will also be organized.
Creation of displays and exhibitions of the projects' results and experiences in both participant countries.
A website will be created where a general display of the project will be presented.
Creation of a discussion forum on the Internet regarding the project.
Using the discussions blog of the project.
The final products will be distributed to the libraries of the local, regional and national institutions.
